When Business Scales and Culture Doesn’t
How did we get to this point? What happened to the days when we knew everyone in the office and could reach over our cubicles to talk about our kids, a customer call, or to share a joke we just heard. We knew our owners personally. They actually hired us. We knew their kids; went to office get-togethers at their houses; and spent very Friday afternoon on the golf course, even if we didn’t know how to play. We were tight!
In my long career as an HR professional, I have initiated employee focus groups for about everything under the sun. We have focused on workplace activities, employee and family company events, rewards and recognition programs, holiday potlucks, international holiday celebrations, birthday and anniversary recognitions and a lot of town hall meetings on what we can do better as a company.
